What we believe…

The ministry of Engage is set upon the foundations of God’s word, we operate with the Word of God as the basis for all our beliefs and functions as a ministry serving the local church. Find out our take on a few of the key points below based on scripture. Need to know more? Send us a message!

God the Father

We believe that the God of the Bible, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is the one and only true God. We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and that every living thing originated at His command. We believe that all of creation exists for God's purpose and plan.

"Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other."
- Deuteronomy 4:39 NIV

"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
- John 17:3 NIV

Jesus the Son

We believe that Jesus is God's one and only Son, sent into the world to die for our sins. He is our saviour and redeemer. In Him we find forgiveness of sins and are redeemed into a right relationship with God.

"And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” - Matthew 3:17 NIV

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6 NIV

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God in action, He is the Spirit of Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit is how we see the hand of God move supernaturally in our lives and for the benefit of others.

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?" - 1 Corithians 6:19 NIV

"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." - Acts 2:1 - 4 NIV

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God's Word and has authority to command our beliefs, values and actions. The Bible reveals who God is, and who we were created to be. The Bible shares God's blue prints and instructions for how we are to live our lives and have relationship with Him and the people around us.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

Church

We believe that we are a body, the family of God. Church is where we meet and gather to grow and worship. Church is a place of weekly encouragement and where people of all ages, walks of life, experiences and levels of faith can meet together to discover God's heart for their lives and encounter His goodness.

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV

"Do not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching" - Hebrews 10:25 NIV

Salvation

We believe that we come into a right relationship with God, and are saved only by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus. We believe that everyone has access to salvation through faith, by believing in their heart that Christ died for their sins and was raised from the dead, and by confessing that Jesus is Lord. We believe that the evidence of someone being saved and turning to Christ, is that they now align their lives to live as Jesus did.

"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." - Romans 10:9-10 NIV

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9 NIV

Sin

We believe that all have sinned, missed the mark and tripped up in some way during their lifetime and that we all require forgiveness. We believe that forgiveness is received by accepting Jesus, turning away from our sinful choices, confessing them to God and asking him to forgive us and set us free from the eternal consequences of our shortfalls. Mistakes will be made along life’s journey, but it’s God’s saving grace that lifts us when we fall and empowers us to do better next time. His mercies are new every morning!

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." - Romans 3:23 NIV

Forgiveness

We believe that God forgives and sets us free from the consequences of our sin and mistakes. He restores us into a right relationship with Him through the sacrifice that Jesus made by dying on the cross for us.

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us." - 1 John 1:5-10 NIV

Water Baptism

We believe that water baptism is a vital step in our relationship with God that follows our salvation. We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of faith, an outward symbol that is an act of the inward change that has taken place when we asked Christ into our lives and were set free from our former ways.

"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." - Mark 16:16 NIV

 Communion

We believe that communion is an important part of a Christians life, and that we should take communion in obedience to Christ's command and in rememberance of Him.
Communion is an opportunity to give thanks for Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and should be done often.

"The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes." - 1 Corinthians 11:23 NIV

Healing

We believe that God is able to heal all that we are. We believe that God, through the power of His Word and Holy Spirit, is able to heal physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Re-aligning us into the fullness of health and wellbeing in every aspect of our lives. We believe that as Christians, through faith in Christ Jesus, that we have the ability to pray for others, as Jesus did, by the authority of Jesus name and by His Holy Spirit to see people healed in this day and age.

"As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give." - Matthew 10:7-8

Gifts of the Spirit

We believe that God gives gifts to his people for the work of the ministry, which reveal Jesus to both the believer and the unbeliever. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 says…

”There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”

The Apostles Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father [and the Son].
With the Father and the Son
he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
